Hezekiah Rice

( - Bef Oct 1796)

I found an earlier Hezekiah Rice, living in Louisa Co VA, where the Jouetts also lived. I very much suspect this is the same man. The variations of "Mechie/Meechum" in Louisa may be an attempted spelling for Michaux, a Huguenot family that settled in that part of Viginia.
Louisa Co DB B
p.284  29 Apr 1758  John Meche to Hezekiah Rice.  40#'s.  100 acres, part of tract of 1152 acres.  Moreman's River line, Meechums River, the place called the horse shoe. Signed:  John Mechie.  Wit: Mosias Jones, Robert Mechie, James Watson.  26 Sep 1758, ack by Mechie.
p.286  29apr 1758.  Hezekiah Rice – mortgage for slave Sam to John Mechie.  To be paid before 20 Nov 1759.

This Hezekiah Rice said to be son of Benjamin Rice; Hezekiah born Virginia - probably Goochland Co. The online database suggest he was born by 1739 in Albemarle which was not a county until 1744.
