Elizabeth Prudden

( - )

Elizabeth was the daughter of the Rev. Peter Prudden and Joanna Boyse of Milford. Joanna had an income from English estates which was left by will to her children. Letters and account written by Elizabeth's brother, the Rev. John Prudden, prove that Elizabeth's share was paid for a time to Peter Burr, her son.

Without doubt, Elizabeth was the mother of Peter Burr who was born 1668, as well as the five younger Burr children who carried Prudden names. There was a daughter Mary Burr, married Samuel Wakeman, and died about 1688, leaving an only child, Mary Wakeman. Mary Burr Wakeman was likely older than Peter Burr or born circa 1666 - she could have been Elizabeth's daughter, or possibly the daughter of the first wife Hester. Mary may have lived in Milford in her girlhood with relatives of her Prudden grandmother leading one to think she was likely Elizabeth's child. By 24 May 1667, Elizabeth had witnessed a deed with her husband Jehu but there were no records of Jehu's first wife Esther for several years prior to that date.
