Col. Edward Ware

There is a manuscript regarding Edward Ware in the Vertical File at the Georgia State Archives. No author is stated but the part that deals with dates of Edward's family says "F. L. Bartow, 1902".

The dates for births and deaths of his children are said to have come from a Family Bible, published 1816 by Matthew Carey, Philadelphia. In 1959 the Bible was in the hands of Mrs. C. A. Basore (Annie T.) of Auburn, AL

He served under James Higginbotham in 1776. He enlisted in Aug 1776 from Amherst Co VA, for three months. He enlisted again June 1778 for three months. He enlisted in Oct of 1780 and served seven days in Capt. Samuel Higginbotham's Virginia Company. He enlisted 27 Feb 1781, as a sergeant in Capt Dillard's Co and was in the Battle of Guilford; discharged 12 Apr 1781. He enlisted in Jun of 1781 as a brevet 2nd lieutenant and served four months and was at the seige of York.
He stated in the application that he had moved to Elbert Co GA [now Madison Co] in 1791, from Amherst Co VA. He was allowed his pension.

Oldest son Bennent already received a tract of land on Lamars, boy Lewis, gray mare and saddle.
Daughter Lettice received boy Joe, bay mare & saddle.
Daughter Judith Higgenbotham, in her lifetime received a Negro boy Charles, a black mare and saddle [Judith was deceased]. She is to receive nothing more.
Son Philip, has received a tract of more than 130 acres out of the land I now live on, a boy Abraham, a gray mare and saddle
Son Henry, in his lifetime received 132 acres, a boy Calleo, a gray horse and saddle. [Henry was deceased.]
Daughter, Elizabeth Long has received girl Deci and $100 in place of a horse and saddle. She is to receive $20 more.
Daughter Mary Hobson received girl Esther, gray mare and saddle.
Daughter Sarah Borum has received a brown mare and saddle. I now give her the Negro girl Silvey and her future increase and at her death to descend to all the children of Sarah Borum including the two children by her first husband, Britton Sanders. I make my executors trustees for this purpose.
Daughter Ann Higginbotham in her lifetime received Peggi, a horse and saddle. She nor her estate are to receive nothing more. [Ann was deceased.]
To son Elisha Ware, all the land I now own in Madison County whereon I live and Elisha now lives. He is to pay daughters Lettice Ware, Elizabeth Long, Mary Hobson, Sarah Borum, and Gincy Strickland $50 each. I give him the negro boy Simon which he has in his possession. He is to receive a horse to the value of $100.
Daughter Gincy Strickland has received girl Rhoda, a bay horse and saddle.
To my five daughters: Lettice Ware, Elizabeth Long, Mary Hobson, Sarah Borum, and Gincy Strickland, 980 acres of land in Wayne County.
The general surplus of my estate to equally divided between Bennett Ware, Lettice Ware, Philip Ware, Elizabeth Long, Mary Hobson, Sarah Borum, Henry Ware's legal representative, Elisha Ware, and Gincy Strickland, or their children if either of the above be dead. James Long, Philip Ware, Elisha Ware to be Executors.

Col. Ware's first wife and the mother of his children was Sally Thurmond who died about 1812.

There is a marriage certificate in Madison Co: Col. Edward Ware and Nancy Daniel married by Young Gresham, JPC, 9 Oct 1813 and recorded 29 Apr 1814. If he married a 2nd time, it's obvious that she predeceased him.
