Aaron Smith Frye

(4 Jun 1798 - 13 Sep 1845)

"Elizabeth Fry, with Abraham Bird Sr, security, bound as guardian for Aaron Smith Fry, orphan of Jacob Fry, dec'd. February 13, 1815."

13 Feb 1815 Aaron Fry was indentured as an apprentice under Robert Wilson to learn cabinet making. Elizabeth was apparently named his guardian in anticipation of the indenture. He was bound until 1 Aug 1818. Fayette Co Records, p.510, Vol.?
The deed was not recorded until 4 Jun 1816, which was his 18th birthday. There is some confusion regarding ages and dates in this document but Aaron was to serve a two year apprenticeship. Later in his diary, Aaron state he worked his trade in Lexington for five years. this record goes on to say that Aaron S. Fry shall attain the age of 21 on the 1st of August,1818. However, in a diary, Aaron states that he was born 4 June 1798.

Aaron married Hannah Patterson.

In 1823, Aaron and family moved to Cynthiana quite possibly because of too many cabinet makers in the city of Lexington. In 1824, he took in two orphans as apprentices - one was William Triby, and the other, a boy of "Color". Both given as infants as was the legal term for minor, but likely both were teen-age boys. Aaron's wife's sister, Nancy Elizabeth [who was also Aaron's stepsister], married William Tribbey, 7 Jun 1830.

Aaron's family migrated to Missouri in 1827, arriving 21 Nov in Hannibal. The Pattersons, his mother and stepfather followed in April of 1834.

In 1838, after losing their property to debt, they moved to Monroe Co.

William Tribbey and wife Elizabeth are in the 1850 census in Monroe Co MO when his age was given as 44 and place of birth as Kentucky. Samuel M. Patterson, age 83, was living with them. Aaron's mother Elizabeth had died 12 Sep 1844.
