Will Book 6
p.107 Dec Court 1799 Accounts of Leonard Baker, guardian of Moses, Obadiah, Rhoda & Joseph Echols, orphan of Joseph Echols. Obadiah - clothing & boarding, 7 years, 3 months.
Apparently it was his father's first cousin, Obadiah - son of Richard Echols - that administered his father's estate. This Obadiah was still a minor in 1799.

He may have been the Obediah Echols who appeared on the 1800 tax list of Pittsylvania County.

Pittsylvania DB 14
p.316 4 Nov 1804 Moses Echols Senr for natural love & affection to Obediah Echols Senior and for $1. Negro man Ivery. Signed: Moses Echols, Senr. Wit: Moses (x) Echols, Evens Echols, Robert Ferguson 17 Jun 1805, deed of gift proved by two of witnesses
It isn't clear if this is an exchange between brothers or cousins. By the date of this deed, the eldest Obediah of Pittsylvania Co was deceased [will in Pittsylvania Co in 1799], leaving his son of the same name and this Obediah. Whichever of the two cousins named Obediah was older was likely called "Senior". There could have been other Obediahs as well.

Obediah left a will in Pittsylvania County naming brothers and sisters David Echols, Moses Echols, Joseph Echols, Mary Street, Tabitha Lacy, and Rhoda Echols (will dated 24 Jan. 1805, & recorded 17 June 1805).

Although the following marriage is attributed in most databases to this Obadiah - obviously it was not. The will in Pittsylvania Co correctly identifies siblings, and not his half-siblings. The marriage may have been a cousin, son of Obadiah Echols that administered the estate of this Obadiah's father Joseph. "Obadiah Echols married Nanny Franklin, 7 Sep 1805, Halifax Co VA."
