Roger's wife Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Taliaferro and Margaret French. Roger is thought to have been born about 1714 to John Madison 3rd. His grandfather John Madison 2nd was also the father of Ambrose Madison, father of James Madison Sr. and grandfather of James Madison, 4th President of the United States.

Roger Madison paid taxes in Lunenburg Co VA in 1764. A deed dated Oct 1767, shows his wife as Elizabeth Madison, relinquishing dower. A deed of 1777 was to Roger Madison of Charlotte Co VA, placing the family in the proper place for his daughter Ann to marry Henry Cox. Roger's name is on the marriage license as well.

8 Apr 1789, Roger Madison of Halifax Co, wrote his Will. He named daughters Ann Cox, Mary Collins, Elizabeth Moore, Frances Collins, Peggy French Madison. Grandsons Taliaferro Richards, son of George Richards, and Taliaferro Cox [son of Ann & Henry]. Also named son Ambrose to receive all of residue of estate. Executors: Ambrose Madison, and nephew George Camp. Wit: Ben Lankford, William Jackson, Moses Lawson.
