Mary Elizabeth Bolling Lightfoot

Mary Elizabeth Bolling Lightfoot [6th generation] was descended from Capt. John Lightfoot, born England 1622 and died in the West Indies [Surinam] in 1686. He came to America about 1670 when he was appointed Auditor General of Virginia. He had two sons, John and Philip, that were brought to America - their mother has proved elusive to researchers and is unknown. Capt. John's brother William in England was appointed executor of the estate in England to administer for the use of John and Philip "living in parts beyond the seas" - the sons would have been in their mid-thirties at that time. Her line of descent is throught the above son Philip. Philip lived in Glouchester Co VA and died there about 1710; his wife was Alice Corbin. There son, also a Philip, amassed a large fortune with estates in York, Surrey, Charles City, Brunswick, Goochland, New Kent and Hanover Counties. He had houses, storehouses, lot in Yorktown, Willimsburg, Blandford. The second Philip married Mary Armistead Burwell, widow of James Burwell.


Frances Lightfoot, wife of George Benskin Poindexter, descended from the son John who lived in New Kent Co, dying there in May of 1707.
