Lewis Morris Signer of Decl of Independence

Lew Morris was a New York delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He graduated from Yale in 1746 at the age of 20. He was a Major General in the NY State Militia during the Revolution. The british occupied Morrisania, his family plantation which had been will to Lewis. For compensation he and his brother Richard were given 3000 acres on Butternut Creek by the new American government. Today it is know as the town of Morris in Ostega County, NY. There were 10 children. His son Jacob inherited 1000 acres of the Butternut tract.
