Ruth Melicent Phillips

(3 Feb 1923 - 10 Nov 2015)

Ruth Millicent Fox, born Feb. 3, 1923, went to the eternal life to be with the “love of her life”, Don Fox, who passed away 12 years ago. Together they were married 57 years and were inseparable. Ruth and Don had several business partnerships together. They owned a floral shop which they operated together, as well as a residential and commercial construction company. They were both very active in the Veterans of Foreigner War Legion and The Elks Lodge of Denton and were both very proud to have served in the armed forces.

Ruth has resided in Denton since 1987. For the past few years, she resided at Senior Care Health and Rehab Center in Denton; and the staff at that facility is to be commended immensely for the care and attention they gave her. She was known as “The Foxy Lady” with jewels and hats to match every outfit, always feeling very special there!!

Ruth was a native Texan who grew up and went to school in Matagorda County south of Houston. After high school Ruth enlisted in the Navy in Oct. 1943. She went from Houston to the Bronx, NY (a country girl going to the big city) and then to Norman, Oklahoma until she was honorably discharged on Dec. 19, 1945. It was while she served in the Navy that she met her very handsome “prince,” Don and married him only a few weeks after they met. They had three children – the oldest, Greg Fox, then a daughter, Debbie Fox, who died at birth but was never forgotten, and youngest son, Tim Fox.

She leaves behind those sons Greg and Tim Fox, and a daughter in law, Linda Brennan Fox, whom she considered to be her own daughter. Also, her pride and joys are her three biological grandsons; Bernie, Donnie and Ronnie Fox and 2 additional grandsons through marriage, Ken and Eric Brennan.

Between her grandsons and their wives, the family expanded. She enjoyed 10 great grandchildren- two that live in Raleigh, NC, one who lives in New Braunfels, TX and seven more that reside in Frisco, TX. To them, she was known as “Grandma Ruth” and just loved all of the family gatherings throughout the years.

She also has one surviving sister, Ethel Walker, near Nashville, TN along with many nieces and nephews from Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas, all of whom loved and adored her.

Ruth loved to laugh, having a heart as big as Texas and a hug for everyone. She will be missed by many, each with their own special memories of her.
