Jacob was on the Tax List of 1767 in Pittsylvania Co. He lived in Halifax before it became Pittsylvania in 1766. He is on the Land Tax List of 1782 with 720 acres. A Joseph Chaney is listed with 100 acres - perhaps Jacob's son.

Some of the dates as seen here must be errors. Either Jacob married Sarah Midkiff several years earlier or he had an earlier wife or some of the dates of birth of the children are incorrect. Several of the children appear to have been born prior to their marriage and the age span of the children is too many years to have been one mother.
