John Hopkins was in Cambridge by 1634. Freeman on 4 Mar 1635. Removed to Hartford and was one of the original proprietors. Wife Jane married Nathaniel Ward of Hadley after John's death.

Will dated 1 Jan 1648/49
Wife Jane to be sole Executrix. She is to pay my daughter Bethiah 30#'s. One half of my lands should be my son's Stephen Hopkins when he is age 22 years. If my wife should marry again, then one half shall be paid in equall proportion to my son and daughter or their heirs. 11 Nov 1679. Quit claim to Stephen Hopkins from Samuel Stocking & Bethiah Stocking: We have received full satisfaction of our beloved brother Stephen Hopkins for whatsoever is due unto us by the last will of our Hon. Father John Hopkins.
