Elijah Helton

Elijah and Susannah Helton settled in Montgomery co. now called Floyd co. Virginia in 1722. The home place sits about 7 miles west of the Floyd co. courthouseon highway 221. The land was conveyed to Elijah by 3 separate land grants from Governor Patrick Henry. The first was conveyed on April 24, 1775, the second ata later date and consisting of 397 acres, and the third by Virginia Governor Patrick Henry, on Aug 5, 1790 whick was 195 acres in Botetourt county on the west fork of the Little River. The first and second land grants were in Montgomerycounty. (Information from the Loyal Company Archives of Virginia State Library.) The last land grant was in recognition of his service in the Revelutionary War. He was raised in Fluvanna county, Virginia.
