Jesse Montgomery was counted on the Floyd Co VA Personal Property Tax Rolls from 1831 [when the film begins] through 1846. Susannah appears as the widow in 1847. Jesse Montgomery did not count a tithe for himself from 1842 - whether this was an exemption because of age [perhaps over 60] or disability is not known.
When Susannah died, she was noted as a widow.
