John Thomas Bell

(1853 - 1925)

John's first wife: Find A Grave Memorial# 134143875
John Thomas Bell's first wife Clarissa Sewell is supposed to be buried in Paint Rock Cemetery. There is no record of her having a middle name. Clarissa is the mother of his son and daughter, Bud and Dollie. Clarissa was born about 1855 and died before Aug. 1891.
The head marker shown on John's memorial is that of John Thomas Bell's second wife Isabelle "Belle" Mayberry. Belle was a daughter of Charles Mayberry and Ellen B. Thompson.
Belle married the widower John Thomas Bell on Aug. 6, 1891. John, age 38 of Paris; Bell (on the marriage record), age 40 of Paris. The marriage ceremony was performed by M. O. Sanders, Minister of the Gospel. (Logan County Marriage Book D, page 93) No children are known to have been born of this union.
Additional confirmation is the 1910 census for Short Mountain that shows them living near Belle's sister Emeline and her husband Robert Walton Lee and several Biggs. Of importance is that both sisters report being born in Missouri and their parents both born in Virginia, which leads to Charles Mayberry and Ellen B. Thompson.
Research data provided by Biggs descendant, Connie Blackwell. 2/3/2015

John and Isabelle are buried Paint Rock Cemetery, Paris, Logan Co, AR.
