Individual Details

Casper Smith Hughes

(1817 - 1893)

Casper married Sarah Logan on 14 Dec 1850, Perry Co. AL Alabama, 1800-1900 Marriage Index; Genealogy.com

In 1860, Sarahl's age was given as 28, b. [1832] in Alabama. Children listed as follows:
Smith, age 8
Nancy, age 7
Cynthia M. age 5
Isaac N. age 4
Richmond C age 2
George W. age 6 months

By 1870, the children were:
Casper S. age 18
Nancy C. 16
Cinthia M. 14
Isaac N. 13
Richmond 10
George W. 9
Sarah E 8
William 6
Robert L.. 3
and Young R., age 6 months.

By 1880, Smith had married. Wife was Mary C., age 25, b. GA, son George was 6 and Eliza was 2. Casper and Sarah still lived in Severe, Perry Co A and most of the children were still at home: Nancy Caroline 24, [Cynthia missing; married?] Isaac N. age 22 [looks like Isam W. in this handwrinting], Richmond 21, Sarah E, 17, William Wesley 15, Robert Lafayette 12, Young Ragston 10, James S. age 7. Cynthia Ann Logan, probably mother of Sarah, age 70, b. KY, was living with the family; both her parents born in TN.

Looking back at the 1850 census, I find Cynthia A. Logan age 42, as the wife of Coleman Logan; they were on the same page of that census as Oliver & Nancy (Hughes) Swindall. The oldest daughter living with them is listed as Louisa age 16, but I would still believe they were the parents of Sarah Logan Hughes.
