Individual Details
Nathaniel Haggard
(21 Nov 1723 - 21 Aug 1806)
Nathaniel is said to have first been married to Mary Hazelrigg.
Nathaniel lived in Charlottesville, Albemarle Co VA during the Revolution and was a delegate to the Virginia House of Burgesses from Albemarle when he signed the "Virginia Declaration of Independence" on 21 Apr 1779. Thomas Jefferson was elected Governor of Virginia the same year.
Elizabeth and Nathaniel moved to Albemarle County and lived for a time there on land adjoining Jesse Gentry (son of Robert). They sold this land in 1788(19) and bought land the same year in Lincoln County, Kentucky(20), from part of which Clark County was formed in 1790.
Nathaniel died in 1806 leaving a will which left everything to his widow Elizabeth. On her death in 1820, the estate passed to all of their children except Martin who had been killed by Indians at an earlier date. He is buried Haggard Farm Cemetery, Clark Co, KY with 2nd wife Elizabeth.
Mary Zilpah Haggard joined DAR on Nathaniel Haggard for Patriotic Service as a signer of the Albemarle Co, VA Declaration of Indepence, found in History of Albemarle Co, by Woods, p.365. Problems are noted to have been discovered with at least one of the descendants - apparently unable to verify the correct mother for Nathaniel's children. Mary and her sister Cinnie Belle, #125210 are the only ones who have applied through Nathaniel's son Henry. They claimed the mother of Henry was Elizabeth Gentry - it appears, that his mother may well have been Mary Hazelrigg instead.
