Individual Details

William Thomas Jones

(1755 - 4 Sep 1839)

There were two William Jones that married into the Harris family. One of them married Lucy Harris in 1790; the other married Sarah Harris Martin, widow, on 23 Jul 1800. I have seen the same information given for both men but since this William was having children with Lucy Harris after 1800, they can't be the same person.

Both William Joneses are said to have been born about 1755 and be a son of Mosias Jones & Elizabeth Rogers. One connection is obviously wrong. I am placing this William as the son of Mosias based on the fact he did receive a Revolutionary Pension; his file no doubt gives additional information and his age is approximately correct.
Also witnesses to his will in Boone Co, were Higgason & Nancy Harris - Higgason likely his brother-in-law.

William Jones was a private in the Revolution, 7th VA Regt commanded by Capt. Matthew Jouett. He received Pension #S 16890 in 1833. He moved to Madison Co KY before 1790 and then moved to Boone Co MO, 1823.

Will dated 26 Aug 1839. William & Milton Jones were granted Executors of his estate, 4 Sep 1839, Boone Co MO. Sons named: Thomas, Robert, John, Ransom, William & Milton. Daughters: Rebecca Ogan, Nancy Harris, Elizabeth Hern. Witnesses: Higgason Harris & A. W. Turner.
Wills & Administrations of Boone Co MO, p.16.
[Higgason Harris quite possibly his brother-in-law who married Ann "Nancy" Garland.

From the pension file, Fold3.com:
Letter from Rocheport, MO, 24 Sept 1855
Wm Jones was a pensioner under the Act of June 1823 from the State of Missouri - he drew, his son thinks, about $44 per annum. He died 1839. The heirs believed he was due about six months pension at this death; they also believe he was due an increase because of the length of his service. Letter signed F. F. Kirby, presumably a lawyer.

William Jones deposed 24 Jun 1833 to apply for his pension, Boone Co MO. He was age 77. He was drafted in Albemarle Co VA, 10 Feb 1788 - Albemarle was where he was born. He was marched directly to Valley Forge - joined under command of Capt. Matthew Jouett [spelled Douett throughout the deposition] of the 7th VA Regt. but Jouett had been injured and had died on the home. Robert Jouett was ensign; Tapley White, Lt. Jones served in New Jersey and New York, various battles and duties. He was discharged 10 Mar 1779, having serve thirteen months. He had no documentary evidence, nor did he now know anyone who had served with him. William Jones signed his name.
Testimonies given by John Greenhalph, a clergyman, and Tyre Harris.
Pension awarded was $43.33 per annum to begin 4 Mar 1831.
There is no note in the file regarding his death.
