Received by experience into the membership of the Hardeman Primitive Baptist Church on 24 Oct 1831. He was excommunicated on 9 May 1840. [He joined the Methodist Church].

Andrea did not list sources for his information on Charles Murphy. His first wife said to be Eliza Word, daughter of Joyce Allen who married Robert Word. The Words lived in Cass Co GA. Charles and Eliza had children:
Laura Jane, b. 6 May 1835, d. 9 Aug 1836
Eliza Caroline b. 22 Oct 1839, d. 4 Jan 1917 - raised by her maternal grandmother and with Joyce Word in the Cass Co GA census, 1850, p.176, household 1073. Eliza Caroline married Milton Anthony Candler in 1856. She was the only child of Charles to survive infancy. There is a copy of a DAR Supplementary application for a Candler descendant giving Roger Murphy [Junior] born 1767 as the Revolutionary Soldier - I believe it was his father who served.
