Evan Ragland

Settled on the Bannister River a few miles above its confluence with the Dan. There were four children besides Anna: Nancy, Lipscomb, Evan and John. Evan said to have served in the Revolution.

p.187   Oct Court 1795.  Will of Evan Ragland of Halifax Co.  Son John Ragland a tract part of whereon I now live; adj John Eppes dec'd, Mary Barker's line; Richard Parker's line, my own line to the Irish Road that leads to Boyds Ferry, down the road to Miller's Road,  600 acres.  To son John 7 Negroes; horse & mare, bed, furniture, livestock etc.  To son Lipscome Ragland 623 acres at the upper end whereon I now live; 7 slaves, etc.as to John.  To dau Anne Hopson, 8 slaves, etc. including 90#'s.  To son Even Raglan, the remainder of lands, horse & riding chair, etc.   To dau Anna Ragland, 8 Negroes, mare, etc.  If Anna dies without heirs, then her share to be divided amongst my children - John, Lipscomb, Anne & Evan.  Signed Evan Ragland, 13 Nov1792.  Wit:  Sam Winders, Reform Boyd, Mary (X) Winders.  26 Oct 1795 proved.

p.338  Jun Court 1797    6 Nov 1795 Inventory & appraisement of Evan Ragland, dec'd.  At least 30 slaves., 11 horses, 37 head sheep, 41 geese, cart.  Over 1500#'s.  Commissioners:  John Nichols, Richard Finch, RichardPhillips.  Returned 26 Jun 1797.
