Seeley said to be a son of Ethan Owen born 1774 in Poultney, Rutland Co., VT, and died May 21, 1849 in Camden, Schyler Co., IL. Ethan married HANNAH SEELEY January 26, 1801 in Milton, Chittenden Co., VT, daughter of SHELDON SEELEY and DEBRA BOWKER. She was born December 25, 1783 in Thetford, Orange Co., VT.

He married LYDIA ADELINE OWEN November 27, 1834 in Rushville, Schuyler Co., IL, daughter of IRA OWEN and BETSY CASTLE. She was born July 01, 1811 in Milton, Chittenden Co., VT, and died September 19, 1846 in Winter Quarters, NB.

In 1850, Seeley had a household of 4 and a real wealth of $200. Comments: #21. Seeley was one of the original pioneers of Utah. After arriving in the Great Salt Lake Valley in July 1847, he remained there only a few weeks as he returned to Winter Quarters with President Brigham Young later the same year. On July 24, 1854, he gave a pioneer speech at a celebration at Union, Salt Lake, utah. He lived for sometime in Wallsburg, in the Provo Valley, and was accidentally killed while working on the Atlantic-Pacific Railroad near Flagstaff, Arizona in 1881.

Owen, Seeley, one of the original pioneers of Utah, was born March 20, 1805, at Multon, Rutland County, Vermont, a son of Ethan and Hannah Owen. After arriving in Great Salt Lake Valley in July, 1847, he remained there only a few weeks as he returned to Winter Quarters with Pres. Brigham Young later the same year. On July 24, 1854, he gave a pioneer speech at a celebration at Union, Salt Lake Co. He lived for some time at Wallsburg, in Provo Valley, and was accidentally killed while working on the Atlantic-Pacific Railroad near Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1881.

Seeley Owen joined the church on May 20, 1837. He and his wife moved to Nauvoo, Ill. While he lived in Nauvoo he did very well. He owned two lots in town and a farm in the country.
Seeley was made a Seventy and received his endowment in the Nauvoo Temple on January 3, 1846. He and his first wife Lydia Adaline were sealed in the Nauvoo Temple on on January 7, 1846.
They left with the Saints when the church was driven from Nauvoo. He went to Winter Quarters and there Lydia died, leaving him with a small child. On March 22, 1847, he was sealed to Elizabeth Pickle, our grandmother, at Winter Quarters.
Seeley was a member of the Mormon Battalion and his name is on the plaque which is on the memorial statue to the “This is the Place” monument in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He lived in Little Cottonwood Canyon where Elizabeth, our great grandmother, was born on September 28, 1853. He later moved to Provo and then to Wallsburg, Utah, where he helped settle those areas.
He took his family and moved to Flagstaff, Arizona and while working on the railroad in 1891 he was hit by a train and killed. He is buried near Flagstaff.
