According to Gratis Comstock, James and Jane settled in Crawford Co AR as early as 1830. James came from Cape Girardeau MO and was a Justice of the Peace of Crawford Co. Other information suggests the Stevensons were also in Washington Co AR before moving to Crawford Co.
1860, Crawford Co Census. James G. Stevenson, age 56, b. South Carolina. Jane age 50, b. KY. Two of the children still at home: Robert W. age 18 and "Ruen" age 13. James Johnston, 14, and George Johnston 12, were also living in the household.
