Eliza Jane Bear
(10 May 1846 - 2 Jul 1912)
I have been told that Jane was "full blood Cherokee" but believe this to be the usual family "Indian story" probably assumed from her surname someone thought sounded Indian. FindAGrave lists her picture with her living children about 1895 - no one looks the least bit "Indian" The story:
Jane was born in War Eagle Township, Washington County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Hugh Bare/Bear & Jane McChristian/McCuistion. She was the wife of Philip Schell. She had sixteen babies and ten lived to adulthood: Lafayette, Andrew, Cephus, Hugh, John, Jacob, Lillie, Lou, Levada, and Joe.
Buried Antioch Cemetery, McDonald Co MO.
