Africa Pike

Africa married (1) Thomas Palin and (2) Hugh McGregor, ca 1695. His will was dated 12 Jan 1703/4, Pasquotank. He bequeathed land in New York to a brother-in-law. Africa was Executrix of the will.
After McGregor's death she married (3) Robert Hicks. Africa's will was dated 7 Nov 1711, Pasquotank. She mentioned two sons, Patrick and Gregory McGregory, and Ann Palin, sister-in-law. The boys were not yet of age so were placed in the care of John Palin and Nathaniel Chevin.

Aftrica Hicks, wife of Robert J. Hicks of Pascotank makes her last will and testament. Decent burial, debts paid. rest of personal estate of which she was possessed at the day of her marriage she gives to her two sons Patrick & Gregory Mac,Gregory. John Palin and Nath. Chovin to be her executors. John Palin and Nath. Chovin together with Madm Eliza. Hunt, widow, to take care of estate her her sons arrive to age twenty one. John Palin & Madm Eliza Hunt, widow to have care and tuition during their minority. My my loving husband Robt Hicks, bed & furniture and small gold sing and silver.... My sister Anne Palin, widdow, all my wearing clothes that she shall think fit.

Africa's son Patrick McGregor was born ca 1696 and died ca 1727 in Orange Co, NY. He had a daughter Mary who married David Southerland. Son Gregory probably born ca 1698.
I have seen a note on FamilySearch that Hugh McGregory & wife Africa were administrators of the estate of Em Mayo, wife of Edward Mayo, dec'd. Would have been before 1704 when McGregor died. Source: North Carolina Higher-Court Records, Vol 1, p.160.
