Emigrant ancestor of one of the Lewis families. Settled about 1694 in Middlesex Co VA near Dragon Swamp. Patent in 1694 for 450 acres in King William Co and 500 in 1703 in King & Queen Co VA. Possible daughters include Mourning Lewis, d. 8 Aug 1765 in Albemarle who married Robert Adams son of William Adams [Mourning's father also suggested as a William Lewis by others] and Mary Lewis who married Joseph Dulany. Children other than John include Susanna who married Joseph Collins, Zachary who married Mary Waller and lived in Spotsylvania Co VA, Elizabeth who married James Shackelford, and Jane who married Robert George. Zachary was an emigrant in 1692, lived in Middlesex Co, then took up 450 acres of land in King William Co in 1694, another 500 acres in King & Queen Co in 1703. Gave records of only two sons, Zachary II, and John. Zachary Lewis did live on the Dragon Swamp in Middlesex Co; his home inherited by the younger son John, born about 1704. Zachary II died 20 Jan 1765 in Spotsylvania Co. He had married Mary Waller. Both Zacharys apparently lawyers.
