Genealogical Dict of the 1st Settlers of New England: name was Shipton when proposed as freeman Oct. 1667; recorded in new form at death.
In the will of the Indian sachem Uncas, dated 29 Feb 1676, Edward was one of three devisees to which the testator gave 3000 acres "within sight of Hartford".

1. Bought of William HIDE senior acre of land lying in the calves pasture abutting west on the highway north on the lands of John CLARK senior east on the cove south on the land of Thomas TRACY.
2. bought of John OMSTED eleven acres of land lying in the field called penny wise abuteing north upon the highway east upon the land of John CLARKE's south upon the land of John WESTALL and West upon the land of Richard TOOSLAND
4. one parsill of land given me by the town lying upon the long point abutting north to the Creek east to the land of Abram POST south to the land of master FENWICK and west to the commons of this land there is nine acres five of upland and four of meadow the towne did grant an acre to this land as abovesaid so that as now bounded on the south by the highway on the east by John WESTALL's meadow.
4. bought of Goodman HIDE a hundred pound commonage in the towne commons and in the oxpasture
