1830 Census, Sangamon Co IL, p.152, Line 16:
Usel Meeker: 1m age 20-30 and 1f age 15-20 [Alla would have been age 19)
Usel was enumerated immediately following Elisabeth Jones.

Usel Meeker was also on the roll in the same unit as his brother-in-law Richard Jones in the Black Hawk War. He served as a Private in Capt. Abraham Lincoln's Company, 4th Registment of Whiteside's Brigade, Mounted Volunteers of the Illinois Militia. They were mustered out of the service at the mouth of the Fox River on 27 May 1832.

Meeker was called back into service in the Black Hawk War; Zadock W., William & Royal Flynn are all shown as members of the Company of Allen F. Lindsey, most from Morgan Co, the Spy Battalion, 3rd Brigade, Illinois Mounted Volunteers, called into service 16 May 1832. Royal was a Corporal, the other Flynns were Privates. Isaac R. Bennet, brother-in-law, husband of Mary Jones, was 2nd Lt of the unit; he lost 1 Sorrel mare by forced marching.
Usel Meeker, one of three men from Sangamon County, served again as a private in this unit. Micajah Poindexter was also in the unit.
Note signed Alen F. Lindsey: This company organized 4th day of Jun 1832. Took up line of march for head Quarters 9th day June 1832 mustered into service 19th day of June 1832. Eight days Rations for Seventeen men have Been drawn for traveling purposes 16th Aug 1832.

1850 Census. Union Twp, Ste. Genevieve Co MO; p.247b, Hh 617. Usel Meeker, age 35, farmer born in Ohio. Alle age 29 born KY and John age 12, born IL. Also in the household was John Hughes age 20, Laborer, born in TN.
[The ages of Usel and Alla seem to be 10 years off in this census.]
Hh 610 was Enos Meeker, also age 35, and born in Ohio. His apparent spouse was Mary Ann, 31, b. NY and in his housheold was David A., 10, b. Illinois, Mary H. 7, John B. 4, and Charles C. age 11 months, all born in Missouri. Could this be a brother to Usel Meeker?
