Cartwright Twp of Sangamon Co, IL was bounded on the west side by Morgan County when it was formed in 1823. In History of Sangamon Co, Illinois, 1881. p.813: "The first settlement in the township was made in 1819 along Richland Creek. Among the early settlers were ... Wright Flynn (probably Zadock Wright Flynn), Irwin Masters.
1830 Morgan Co IL Census: Wm. I. Masters on p.67, age 20-30, 2m -5, 2f -5, 1f 20-30. Enumerated near Isaac R. Bennett and Arche Poindexter, brothers.-in-law.
Family Group Sheet done by Marlene Jones shows that William Masters married 2nd, Millie Parrot. Children by Nancy Jones were Samuel, John B. who married Nancy Sims in 1847, Betsy Ann, Melissa Ann who married Granderson Smith, and Phoebe Ann who married Peter Davenport.

The 1850, Morgan Co IL census does show Peter Davenport, age 23, with wife Phoebe age 17 and a one-year-old Elizabeth. Malissa Masters, age 22, was living with them. Only a couple of pages away there are several young Masters children living with a Boyer family. Could these be children of Masters 2nd marriage? I did find that Milly married Jacob Boyer following the death of William Masters. Household 2221

I's and J's are so often confused. FindAGrave has a memorial for William J. Master. The stone in Conlee Cemetery, Morgan Co, IL, is pictured but unreadable. Said to have died aged 42y 8m 18d. That would be a birthdate of 17 Jul 1799 - they have posted here 16 Nov 1799.
