Walker served in a Texas unit in the Civil War. Died in action.

I am not at all sure that his middle name was Hubbard although that was originally given to me as his name - it seems to have started with an "N" as did his mother's middle name. The 1880 census indicates that Elizabeth, Walker's wife, was the daughter of Hubbard Quarles. Perhaps they were poorly made "H"s.

Texas Confederate Pensions:
Higginbotham, Elizabeth M. # 03695, Smith County: Higginbotham, W. N.
Pension Application dated 25 Jul 1899, filed as Indigent widow of Soldier of the late Confederacy for pension under the Act of 12 May 1899. Elizabeth M. Higginbotham was a resident of Smith County and the widow of W. N. Higginbotham. She was 66 years old. She had lived in Smith Co for 48 years, at Troup. She married the soldier on 4 May 1856 in Smith Co. He died 23 Jul 1863. He was in Capt Wily's Company (D) and Clark's Regt. Served one year. She had received a veteran donation land certificate for 1280 acres of land which had been sold for $65.00. She had no property and was unable to earn her own support. Moses Pace and G. W. Grissumm testified to the accuracy of the above on 1 Aug 1899. Pension was approved 13 Oct 1899
On 12 Jul 1924, her son J. D. Higginbotham sent the application for mortuary warrant for Mrs. E. M. Higginbotham who had died in Troup, Smith Co TX on 27 Jun 1924. The certificate of the Undertaker, J. C. Collier of Collier Bros. testified she was buried on the 28th of June, 1924. Dr. D. B. Braley was the attending physician and stated she died of a broken hip, general debility and old age.
