Individual Details

Jackson Higginbotham

(Abt 1816 - )

Never had children.
1850 Bienville Parish LA Census. Living with Jackson and Lucy are Hiram Russaw, age 80 born in VA, and Rachel Barrow, age 35 born in SC. Neither has an occupation listed; possibly kin of his wife?

The 1860 Census for Bienville Parish is lost - but I'm not at all sure he was still there.
1860 Census, Precinct 1, Orange Co, TX, Hh 149
Jackson Higginbotham, age 43, Farmer, b. GA
Lucy, age 38, b. AL

Jackson took out numerous land patents in Bienville Parish:
1 Sept 1852, 39.69 acres. NENW, S31, T17N, R4W
15 Sept 1854, 40.08 acres. SESW, S30, T17N, R4W
1 Sep 1856, 316.48 acres - all in the same township and range as above
W1/2SE, S30. N1/2SW, S30. NWNE, S31. W1/2NW, S31. SWSW, S31
2 Jul 1860, 39.96 acres. SESE S36, T17N, R5W
2 Jul 1860, 79.92 acres. SENE, S36, T17N, R5W and NESE of the same section.

Although it seems that Jackson and Lucy had no children. I found a very strange household in Liberty Co, Texas in 1870. Caleb Higginbotham, age 52, born in Louisiana, his wife Isabel, 50, also born in Louisiana had a son Jackson, 20, and daughter Amanda, age 13 - both born in Teas. Living with them was Catherine Barrow, age 23 with a son Shake, age 8.
Finding out more about the Barrow family might reveal more about Jackson & Lucy.
