Col. Joseph Hansen
( - 1911)
Immigrated to the US in 1854 with his parents. Served in the Union Army and wounded in the battle of Malvern Hills in New York. Came to Van Buren in 1864 in charge of bringing the telegraph lines to Van Buren. Around 1870 he and his brother-in-law Alexander Thompson developed Sulphur Springs as a health resort. Eventually made their home in St. Joseph, MO.
