Daughter of Nathaniel West and Sarah "Salley" Bigger Watson Dandridge.
She was born in Hanover Co., Va. at "Yellow House". She was married first to Col. William Winston Fontaine, (a grandson of Patrick Henry thru his daughter, Martha, who had married John Fontaine).
William was born at "Leatherwood" in Henry Co. Va. He and Martha were married on Jan. 16, 1810 in Goochland Co., Va. Their children were William Spotswood Fontaine, Patrick Henry Fontaine, and Anne Fontaine. William died enroute home from Alabama at the age of 30 in 1816. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Abington. (State was not mentioned.)
She later married William Perkins, on March 13, 1830 in Henry Co. Va. He died on Nov. 8, 1849 in Martinsville, (Henry Co.) Va. They had supposedly lived next door to the "Presbyterian church" in Martinsville.
Martha was a descendant of Gov. Spotswood of Virginia.
