News has just reached James and Margaret (Noland) Barker of the death from cholera of their oldest son, Henry, leader of a train from this vicinity bound for California.
Henry William Barker was born in Kentucky in 1797 and married in Estill Co, KY, June 1, 1823 to Sarah Margaret Noland, daughter of Jesse Noland and Sarah Barbara Turner. He died and was buried in an unmarked grave beside the trail on June 9, 1852, age 55.
Survivors at his side were his wife, their oldest son Jess Noland Barker and wife Mary Jane Gilmore with their infant daughter Isabel; younger sons, James, Smallwood, William, Henry, and John; daughters Ann, wife of John Long; Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Miller; and Nancy. sisters, Rebecca, wife of William Wood, and Rachel Barker.
Daughters Perlina and Sarah remain in Missouri. Other survivors are sisters Nancy with husband Absalom Brandenburg in Kentucky, Siddina with her husband Thomas Burris in Missouri, and Margaret with husband Samuel Robinett, also in Missouri. Brothers James, Joseph & Joshua are all in Texas.

Joshua Barker & Thomas Burris were in Parker Co, TX by 1856.
With Henry in the wagon train bound for California in 1852 were his wife, children except for Perlina and Sarah and including the spouses of Jesse, Ann, and Elizabeth, his sister Rebecca and presumably her spouse and sister Rachel.
