Absalom Pippin

Absalom enlisted as a private in Company C, 8th TN Mounted Infantry, Union on 30 Mar 1865 at Carthage TN. He was discharged 27 Aug 1865 at Nashville. He married Martha Melvina Cole on 5 Oct 1868 in Jackson Co and (2) Frances, surname unknown. In 1880 the family lived in Allen Co KY but the 1890 Veterans' Census shows them back in Jackson Co.

His death certificate states that he was a widower and he died of acute bronchitis. His father was Wilts [sic] Pippin, his mother Pos Pippin. Morgan Pippin gave the information.

Absolom married Martha Jane Cole. Their second son was Sidney S. Pippin, born 2 Mar 1870 and died 16 Jun 1944, age 74. [This information from Sidney's death certificate - the Pippin book has his birthday as 25 May 1870.] Mrs. Bishop Duncan gave the information but didn't know Sidney's mother's name. Wife is listed as Delvina Pippin. [She was is 2nd wife, Lucy Delavine Pippin Cook] Sidney died of myocardal insufficienty & cerebral apoplexy - he had a stroke. He was buried Whitaker Cemetery, Putnam Co.
