Early Records of the Town of Providence, Vol. IV (part of 3rd Book) p.80-2: Last Will & Testament of Zachary Roades, dated 28th Aprill in ye yeare 1662. Wife Joanna to be Executrix. Dwelling house and comonage to wife for her use during her life and then to youngest son, Peleg or equal shares with eldest son Jeremiah if his grandfather Arnold does not provide for him. The land within the precincts of the town are to be equal between eldest & youngest sons. Right of lands in Rehoboth to belong to son Malachy when he is 21 years of age. Land & Meadow on South side of Pautuxett River to be equally divided between sons Zachary, Malachy and John when they are 21 - until then to be for use of their mother. Eldest daughter Elizabeth 80 pounds at age 21 or day of her marriages. Daughters Mary and Rebeca, 60 pounds each at age of 21 or marriage. If any of the daughters match themselves contrary to the mind of their mother, she is at liberty what to give them. All household goods, debts, cattle to wife Joanna during her lifetime and then free to dispose of as she shall see cause. Two friends William Carpenter Senr of Pautuxett and John Browne of Providence are to be overseers to be helpful unto my wife and they will receive 5 pounds each.
