Found on Quit Rent Roll of Virginia, 1704; Middlesex County, 100 acres.

There was a Blakey family Bible, once in the hands of Miss Florence Carpenter of Warren Co KY, a descendant of the Blakey family. The Bible had been handed down from her grandmother, Sarah P. (Blakey) Proctor Duncan. There is a transcript of the Bible which was contributed to The Virginia Genealogist, Vol. 1, 1947, p.89, by George H. S. King of Fredericksburg, VA.

The Library of Virginia has a handwritten transcript of the Bible but they are not identical and were transcribed in a different order. The transcript in The Virginia Genealogist has some additional information about the genealogy from the dates in the Bible down to Miss Carpenter. The copy in the Library of Virginia states that it is Thomas Blakey's Bible, but a notation written by Sarah George Blakey, wife of Churchill Blakey would seen to indicate the Bible might originally have been hers. She stated, " My father Robert George, his father Isaac George and I, Sarah Blakey, were born the same month and day." Signed, Sarah Blakey.
Isaac George was born 20 Feb 1635, Isle of Wight County, VA
Robert George was born 20 Feb 1665
Sarah George was born 20 Feb 1692.

The handwritten transcript does indicate that some entries are in a different hand, particularly the death of Thomas Blakey, 29 Jan 1791. Neither transcript offers the name of the Bible, printing date, or any additional information.

There is a problem with the Bible in that Churchill Blakey, born 30 Mar 1691, is listed in the Bible as the son of Thomas and Susanna Blakey. Records from Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co, VA, say she was Margaret, not a Susanna at all. There is apparently an error in the Bible record - perhaps Susanna was the mother of Thomas and not his wife.

From the Christ Church Parish Register, Middlesex Co, VA, as reprinted in Annals of A Scotch-Irish Family: The Whitsitts of Nashville, Tennessee.
p.29 Thomas Blackby & Margaret Jones both of this parish marryed 4th Octob. 1686
p.33 1686. Married. 4 Octob. Thomas Blackey of Cumberland in England & Margt. Jones of Clamorganshire in Wales
p.31 Churchhill Blake the sone of Thomas and Margaret Blake baptiz. at ye Upper Chap'll 27th Febry 1686.
This entry is curious because the Bible was transcribed twice with the birth of Churchill Blakey as Mar 30, 1691. And present day transcripts show a birth of Churchill as 30 Mar 1690. Is it possible that he was the 2nd child they had named Churchill? That the child baptised in 1686 had died? The transcription of the Parish records which appears on Ancestry.com, gives a birthdate for this entry for "Churchhill Blake" as 30 Nov 1690, as does the same on FamilySearch.org. Neither has this earlier baptism. Perhaps the records in the Whitsitt book have come from an earlier transcript or even microfilm of the original.
