Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hamilton of 807 Desert Blvd, have announced the engagement of their niece, Miss Joyce Irene Brown, to Lawrence J. Notter Jr., son of Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence J. Notter of 115 W. Adams St.
The wedding will take place June 2 at the First Methodist Church.
The bride-elect attended California schools and received her degree in physical education at the University of Arizona, where she was a member of Phrateres. She is now teacing at the Yuma Union High School.
Mr. Notter will be graduated this month from the university, where he is majoring in chemistry. He served with the army in the European theater during World War II.

Joyce Irene Brown Notter Kightlinger was born on December 14, 1926 in Stockton, California to Roscoe Franklin and Bertha Ferguson Brown. At the age of seven her mother remarried and moved to Seattle,Washington, dying a few months later and leaving Joyce to be raised by her aunt and uncle and her mothers mother and stepfather. Joyce graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1944, the University of Arizona in 1948, and started teaching Physical Education and other subjects the following year in Arizona, and later California, New Jersey and Texas. On June 2, 1949 Joyce married Lawrence Jack Notter, son of Lawrence and Reba Gemmer Notter, in Tucson, Arizona. The couple had three children, Gary Craig and Carol. Jack worked as a chemical engineer for Shell Chemical creating moves every few years across the United States. Joyce enjoyed traveling, dancing, sports, people and other different activities. She had a strong will and determination that held out to the very end. She attended the First Baptist Church of Gridley. Joyce passed away on December 6, 2010 in Gridley, California. Joyce will be remembered for her cheerful and fun loving personality and her love of people and life. The family wishes to thank the many kind people who gave Joyce rides to church and the staff at Evergreen Health Care and Hovalid.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Gary (Sandy) Notter of Tulsa, OK; Craig Notter of Gilbert, AZ; and Carol (Jim) Brown of Gridley, CA; ten grandchildren, one great granddaughter and three cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe F. Brown and Bertha Ferguson Brown Heath, her grandparents, Roscoe W. and Margaret Guest Brown, William Ferguson, Lula Hesley Ferguson Schrichfield, and step-grandfather Francis Schrichfield. She is also preceded by her aunt and uncle, Bert and Dortha Marie Ferguson Hamilton and half uncle, Irvin Schrichfield.
