This census raises some questions - the wife would appear to be a younger, second wife. Researchers claim that Martha outlived Thomas and married a second time to Benjamin Combs and is found living with grandchildren as late as 1880. This does not explain this 40 year old Mary.

There is a family story that Thomas left his first wife Martha and started another family. Martha certainly married Benjamin Combs. This may be the second family of Thomas Terry.
Finding a marriage record for Thomas Terry to a Mary - or finding the marriage record of Martha Terry to Benjamin Combs would help sort out the children, etc.
