Newton J. King, a prominent citizen of Whitney, Hill Co, ws born in North Carolina, April 15, 1826, a son of James and Rebecca (Ratcliff) King. The father died in North Carolina in 1843 at the age of fifty-six years, and the mother in Georgia, in 1862, aged seventy-five years. The parents had fifteen children, fiz: Bette, wife of Jonathan Coyins; Sarah, widow of Richard Cox; Johnson, deceased; Redden, deceased; Harrison, deceased; Posey; Edmond, deceased; Kinsey Turner, deceased; Caroline, wife of Drew Weeks; Newton J, our subject; Myra, wife of Andrew Calvord; Emeline, deceased, wife of John Logan; Lucinda; and James, deceased.
