Individual Details
William B. "Doke" Bowles
(1834 - 7 Dec 1902)
William married Amanda Ware in Mississippi.
A book, Early Settlers and Indian Fighters of Southwest Texas, by Andrew Jackson Sowell, p.383, has a bio about Doke Bowles. This book lists Doke's birthplace as "Allewamby County, TN" which was surely a misunderstanding of "Ittawamba". He perpetuates the story that the grandfather John Bowles was with Gen. Jackson at New Orleans, was hit twice, and died of his wounds.
