Is this Frank?
1885 Iowa State Census. Sioux City Ward 3, Woodbury Co.
Frank Bassett, age 22, Railroad Man, b. IN

In 1910 Rosie Bassett was listed in the census as a "widow". There is a Frank Bassett buried Black Creek Cemetery, Poplar Bluff, Butler Co MO. He was born 1862 in Indiana, died 25 Feb 1913, in Popar Bluff. Either his death year is wrong - or they were not living together by 1910 and an enumerator made an assumption about her marriage status. I found no Frank Bassett in Butler Co at all.

TRIES TO STAB ALARMED WIFE
Frank Bassett Saved From Near Murder
Slashes Several Times with Butcher Knife at Woman Who Left Him
Frank Bassett, grieved and enraged over his wife's refusal to permit him to visit her, drew a butcher knife and tried to stab her Saturday aftenoon on Vine near Second Street. He was saved from probably murder by a confectioner and Mrs. Bassett's son-in-law, who wrenched the blade from his hand and seized his uplifted arm. Chief Calvin and Officer Whitworth quickly took him into custody.
The woman was almost prostrated by the incident and helped into an ice-cream parlor at 200 Vine Street, where friends calmed her. Her nervous systerm had received a severe shock. Her husband was almost crazed and the police claim was under the influence of intoxicants when arrested. He will be turned over to the state authoritites.
Mrs. Bassett is reported to have left her husband some time ago because of his alleged habits. It is evident that he was waiting for her on Vine Street Saturday afternoon and as she came along shortly after 4 o'clock, he accosted her. They talked together a short while. He is said to have urged that she permit him to call on her Saturday night. She refused to allow the visit.
Bystanders saw Bassett reach into his pocket and then saw a swift movement of his arm. The woman screamed, and continued screaming. Her son-in-law, named Ferguson [probably Robert Ferguson, her son], rushed to her aid and grasped Bassett'e uplifted arm. A Greek confectioner seized his wrist and forced him to drop a knife of the butchers variety, rusty and old but recently sharpened.
It is claimed that Bassett struck at his wife several times but missed the target each time. Calvin and Whitworth were only a short distance away and they arrested the man almost immediately. Mrs. Bassett was taken to her home by friends.
