Silence Sears

(1729 - 28 Aug 1750)

Silence was probably an only child for she inherited the entire Joshua's Town property of her mother. After her death Samuel Comstock with approval of the heirs of Nathan Tiffany sold to their uncle John Harvey.

NOTE: There is a descrepancy in the surname of Silence. In the John A. Comstock book, she is given as the daughter of Consider Tiffany who married a Sears. In the New England Historical & Genealogical Register, "Block Island Settlers of Joshua's Town, Lyme, Conn." Vol. 153, Oct 1999, p. 455, she is a granddaughter, the daughter of Silence Tiffany. The two are NOT in agreement regarding Silence - and I believe the article to be correct. It is well researched and documented. John A. Comstock, did no research himself but used previous research done by others and letters written by relatives which often had no documentation. I have read through much of his manuscript collection at NEHGS in Boston which contains copies of the previous research by other Comstocks and his correspondence. There are errors - some quite serious - in the book. Anyway, the discrepancy is that in the book, Samuel's wife, Silence was a daughter of Consider Tiffany & Abigail Niles. In the article she was was a granddaughter of Consider Tiffany & Abigail Niles via their Silence Tiffany & her husband an unknown Sears. The latter makes more sense with dates, etc.
