Individual Details

Albert L. "Bert" Redmon

(2 Jan 1892 - 16 Jan 1934)

Aunt Maude signed the funeral register of Kenney Comstock as Maude "Redmon" so I presume that is the correct spelling.

Most family databases state his birth took place in Oklahoma, but the following census show Arkansas. His obit had several errors, including that he was born in Indian Territory and it had the names of his parents slightly incorrect.

REDMON FUNERAL WILL BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON
Popular Sallisaw Postmaster Found Dead Tuesday With Bullet Through Head
Funeral services for Bert Redmon, Sallisaw postmaster, will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Christian Church here. Rev. E. R. Hall of Stilwell, former pastor of the local church, will officiate. Masons will be in charge of the service at the grave. Burial will be in the local cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler-Stevenson Funeral Home.
Mr. Remon's body, with a bullet wound through the head, was found in the vault of the post officer here early Tuesday. Although the death had been described by authorities as suicide, officials Tuesday night were investigating the possibility that Mr. Redmon was shot accidently. It was said that a pistol had been kep in a drawer in the vault and that it might have been discharged accidentally when Mr. Redmon opened the drawer.
Mr. Redmon, prominent in Republican politics in Sequoyah county and an outstanding citizen of Sallisaw, appeared in a cheerful mood when he opened the post office Tuesday morning. Neither members of his family, nor friends could ascribe a motive for suicide.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maude Comstock Redmon, formerly of Van Buren, one daughter, Mrs. Faustine Cheek, two brothers, Dan and Harve Redmon of Tulsa and a sister, Mrs. Ed Ruth of Stilwell.
Mr. Rebmon was born January 2, 1892 at Maple, I.T. He was the son of Perry and Katherine Brown Redmon, pioneers of this section.
