George D. Blakey states that Cyrus Wilson entered the ministry of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; that he was ordained at the Presbytery held in Glasgow KY in 1829. He moved to the new State of Arkansas. Within a few years he was nominated by the Whig party as their candidate of Governor and came within 4 votes of being elected.
