HADEN-LOW
Speical in the Gazette
Durant, Dec. 2 J. C. Haden and Mrs. Emma Low were married at noon yesterday at the Presbyterian parsonage by Rev. J. W. Moseley. The groom is the seniot member of Haden & Sons Dry Goods Company and is one of the oldest and most prominent business men of the city. He is the father. ex-Mayor A. C. Haden. His bride has for several years conducted the Cottage Hotel, one of the best known hotels in this section. She is also prominent in church circles. The bridal couple departed for Little Rock, Ark.
In 1910, Emma & James had been married 1 month. Enumerated in May, at Durant, OK. Two of the children listed with the household were hers. She stated she had three children, all living. There was a male, probably "Carl" Low, age 20, "son to wife", Single. He appears to have married James' daughter Katie in the next few years. There were two girls in the household, both age 17. Both could be "Katy" - did the enumerator count James' daughter twice or is one of them a daughter of Emma's - the name could be Ruthe Low. The names are difficult to read as the enumerator's handwriting is poor. One of the daughters born TX, parents born in MO as was the young man's (which makes no sense). The other daughter is said b. OK, father b. AL, mother b. MO - this would not fit James' daughter.
Emma and James Haden had apparently been married about 20 years at the time of the 1930 Census. There are three step granddaughters listed in the household: Dorothy Matthews, age 13, born in South Carolina, Christie Matthews, age 10, and Betty Matthews age 8, both born in OK. They might be daughters of Ruth Low.
