Individual Details
Mary N. Bradford
(Abt 1796 - )
Copied original Marriage License at AL Archives. License issued 27 Jul 1832. Married by Wm Harris, Minister of the Gospel. C. J. Shackleford was bondsman.
After William's death Mary and family moved to Smith Co TX where she remained the rest of her life. The settlement records of her husband's estate are the earliest files in Smith Co and name the younger children, Adeline, Mary Jane & Perry.
Living with her son:
1860 Census. Canton, Smith Co TX; Hh 898
W. N. Higginbotham, age 26, Farmer, born Alabama.
Elizabeth, age 26, born Mississippi. [likely his wife]
Jas. W., age 2, b. TX. Nancy, age 1, b. TX
Mary, age 61, born South Carolina
Perry, age 18, born Mississippi
Mary E. Wilson, age 3, b. TX.
Another researcher has claimed Mary was nee Mary Ann Gill and had married a Bradford and had some six children with him in Fishing Creek, SC prior to 1826. In 1830 a Mary Bradford was in Chester, SC with a child under 5 and one age 5-10. By 1832 she was in Perry Co, AL to marry William Higginbotham. There is simply no trace of these young children in 1840 in Mississippi, when some should have still been minors. She also claims DNA matches but these are based on the highly unreliable Ancestry trees. There is no direct evidence - our correspondence is on file.
