Bernard drowned on March 19, 1919 in the Canal in Rome, while living wi t h his grandparents Barney and Mnnie Shannon. His father Henry was in t h e Army, fighting World War I (in France). Grandma Mary told everybody n e ver to mention a thing about Bernard in any letter that they might sen d t o Henry until after he returned home should that come to pass. As it w a s Henry returned after the war was over and was informed about his son b y h is mother. Joe Moon.
