The 1860 census shows a Michael Wilkinson and Martha and an Ignatius He a rd. Fresco's Marriages and Deaths page 312 has James M. Wilkinson marr i ed Martha Heard witness Ign. Heard. This links James M. Wilkinson to h i s son Thomas Daniel. It was also a trait of Wilkinson's to go by their 2 n d name, until abt 1900. Spurgeon Terry Jr. notes that He was a constab l e in 1869. First marriage to women who was 1/2 American Indian (Martha " P atty" Heard. The term Captain comes from Kristine Z. Madsen" Grama Mae Z o ellner always refered to him as "Cap'm Mike." Also Kris noted: Grandau g hter Helen Heflin said he was a boat cap't later in life." 2/19/1862: N e ws ad signed by James T. Blakistone, Clerk of Circuit Court..land sold f o r $1,455.
