Aaron Smith

Capt. Aaron Smith, his wife Elizabeth Carraway, five children, and five s l aves were massacred by the Cherokee indians on July 1, 1776 and that t h ey originally migrated from Craven Co., NC on the North shore of the N e use in present day Pamlico County near Oriental, NC to Johnston County , N C in the mid 1700's, at the mouth of Carraway Creek and the Neuse ne ar G oldsboro, NC before moving to SC. Aaron also held land in Anson Cou nty N C on the Pee Dee between about 1758 to 1763. Aaron and Elizabeth C arra way moved from there to the old 96 th district of South Carolina wh ere s he was killed with her husband and 5 children at their home in the L on g Cane Creek area during an attack by indians on July 1, 1776.
