Mary was walking home from the funeral of her husband Obadiah, when George asked her to marry him. Through their married life, Mary called George Mr. Adkins. George's grandchildren all loved her. However, George's children did not like her, they felt as though she had risen above her station when she became Mrs. George Washington Adkins. After George's death, Mary had to live with her sister. Mary and her sister belonged to the church as Suzy Chapel.
