Individual Details

George Ora Newman

(1879 - 7 Apr 1952)

In late 1899 Ora and two of his brothers, one being the grandfather of Adda Lewis, were involved in a fight in Wayne County, WV. One of the men they were fighting with was cut pretty bad, and according to others, his intestines were spilled and they thought he would die. The three brothers came to Ohio and changed their last name to Newman, that being their mother's maiden name. Ora also changed his first name to George, (which was one of his other brother's first names) and used Ora as a middle name along with the Newman last name. He went from Ora B. Ward to George Ora Newman. They lived in the Ross County, Ohio area until his death 7 Apr 1952, then Julia moved in with her daughter, Ada, who lived in Chillicothe, Ohio. They finally moved over around Rainsboro, Oh and she died in a Nursing Home in Greenfield, Ohio.
